Peer Review Policy

Peer Review Policy – Utilitas Mathematica Journal

At Utilitas Mathematica Journal, we believe that the peer review process is more than a gatekeeping mechanism—it’s a dialogue, a process of refinement that strengthens the clarity, rigor, and impact of mathematical research.

Our Commitment: Rigorous, Fair, and Fast

We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of mathematical scholarship through a review process that is:

  • Constructive – Focused on improving the work, not just judging it

  • Transparent – Emphasizing clarity in criteria and outcomes

  • Efficient – Targeting a first decision within 6–8 weeks of submission

Double-Blind by Default. Open by Choice.

Our standard review model is double-blind:

  • Authors don’t know who reviews them

  • Reviewers don’t know who the authors are

This reduces bias and focuses attention solely on the mathematical quality of the work.

However, we also support Open Peer Review:

  • Authors and reviewers may choose to sign their names

  • With mutual consent, reviewer reports may be published alongside the article

We believe that trust and transparency should be tools, not trade-offs.

Reviewer Selection

Reviewers are carefully chosen based on:

  • Subject expertise

  • Track record of research excellence

  • Commitment to constructive feedback and timely response

We also support early-career researchers by pairing them with senior reviewers in select cases, helping mentor the next generation of scholars.

Ethics & Integrity

Utilitas Mathematica enforces strict policies against:

  • Plagiarism

  • Conflicts of interest

  • Unethical reviewing practices (e.g. coercive citation)

All submitted manuscripts are screened with plagiarism detection tools before entering peer review.

Revisions & Appeals

  • Authors are invited to revise based on reviewer feedback

  • In case of disagreement, authors may submit a reasoned appeal, which will be reviewed by an independent editor

Innovations in Review (Optional Pilot Programs)

  • Post-Publication Review: Selected articles may be opened to community review after publication

  • Portable Peer Review: We accept reviews from other journals or platforms (with documentation), reducing duplicate review effort

In Short:

Peer review at Utilitas Mathematica is not a gate—it’s a bridge.
A bridge between authors, reviewers, and readers—built on integrity, rigor, and respect.
