Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism Policy – Utilitas Mathematica Journal

At Utilitas Mathematica Journal, we believe that mathematics builds on trust, and that trust begins with originality. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and take plagiarism seriously in all its forms.

What We Mean by Plagiarism:

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying or closely paraphrasing text, results, or ideas without appropriate citation

  • Submitting work that is not original or was previously published elsewhere (without disclosure)

  • Failing to credit collaborators or sources

  • Republishing substantial portions of one’s own previous work without clear attribution (self-plagiarism)

Academic Honesty Is Not Optional

We expect all submissions to be:

  • Written entirely by the listed authors

  • Properly sourced and cited using accepted academic conventions

  • Transparent about any overlap with prior or concurrent publications

Detection and Prevention

Every manuscript submitted to Utilitas Mathematica is automatically screened using advanced plagiarism detection software (e.g., iThenticate or Turnitin).

If a submission is flagged:

  • Minor overlap (e.g. standard terminology or mathematical expressions) is evaluated contextually

  • Substantial or intentional overlap results in immediate rejection, with an explanation sent to the authors

  • In cases of suspected ethical misconduct, the editorial board will initiate a formal review and may notify the author’s institution

Consequences of Plagiarism

Depending on the severity and intent, actions may include:

  • Manuscript rejection

  • Retraction of published articles

  • Formal notification to institutional or funding bodies

  • Ban from future submissions to the journal

We believe in rehabilitation where appropriate, but we will always prioritize the integrity of the scholarly record.

Encouraging Ethical Authorship

We encourage authors to:

  • Use plagiarism detection tools prior to submission

  • Clearly distinguish their contributions from existing literature

  • Disclose prior publication of similar material (e.g., preprints, theses, conference proceedings)

In Summary:

Mathematics thrives on originality, precision, and honesty.
At Utilitas Mathematica Journal, we safeguard these values by enforcing a plagiarism policy that is firm, fair, and forward-looking.
