Abstract

In a person’s area of personal development, education, or career, effective communication coupled with confidence goes a long way. As an active learning technique, group discussion has been recognized for a long time as a means for developing these vital skills. This paper intends to analyze the impact of group discussions on self-reported communication skills and self-confidence. The analysis of the literature and the case studies serves to demonstrate the advantages of group discussion as improved speech and listening skills, self and group work, and self-presentation. This paper also attempts to outline the role of group discussions in improving the confidence of participants while speaking in public or engaging with others.
